Glad that's over!

and glad I didn't wimp out. Did more climbing than I planned (2740 feet), missed my ride mates by a few minutes down at Route 3/102 (that was a buzz-kill), so I did my ride alone. This means that for 3+ hours I never had the benefit of a wheel to follow or a body to draft. Charts later... These are the rides which we will be comparing to similar rides of 12 months ago. Should be interesting to see where I stand.

Does that thing need calibrating or did you really pull 220 watt and only avg 17 mph? And you have a high heart rate. But this is still nowhere near as depressing as Gewili's post...

I missed the group as well. I was @ sophies..guess I should have gone down to RT 3. Next time.

SB where do you see 220 watts? I averaged 184 for the entire ride. My heart rate is high because of the climbing.
Joe- the ride leaves from Sophies on Saturdays only, as far as I know. Did you go to Sophies Sunday? Sunday it'at at Route 102/3 at 8:30. I got home and had an e-mail from J-Lo saying "Change of plans- Ride is at 10:00"
Grr..

I was reading the normalized. I guess this ride was spikey with the climbing and all. What is your resting HR? Let's say it's 45 bpm. Your max is around 185?
(185-45)*.80 = 112 + 45 = 157 bpm would be about an 80 percent effort by HR. You were 4 bpm higher than that, for 3 hours. That's pretty incredible. And way too hard for a December endurance ride.

Maybe your actual numbers are a lot different, but you still went pretty hard here. HR does tend to be high when we rest all week and then ride on the weekends, so maybe that's what is going on. If you averaged 185 watts for 3 hours in the summertime, was your HR a lot lower?

Looking back at my 57 mile ride on 11/29, I did it at 17.3 mph and only 153 bpm. See post from 11/30.
I've done a lot of 3 hour rides this year. A few of them averaged over 20 mph and well over 200 watts (not normalized)
My in-form zone 2 was between 175 and 205 watts, if memory serves. I need to check.
It is time for a field test to better guide the next few weeks of intensity, no doubt about that.
No attaboys for my 175 bpm average in the two NBX cross races?

Hi numbers are kind of expected in cx races... And running races (at least in the shorter ones). Doing it for 3 hours though, that can take days to recover (at least it does at my age).
